As some of you already know for the past two years I have been having off and on dizzy spells. When I move my head in certain directions the room actually starts to spin and my eyes won't focus. It only lasts a few seconds but I feel like I am on a carnival ride (and I don't like carnival rides!)Months go by between periods of dizziness so I have just sort of learned to ignore it. Yesterday however, I think I finally got an answer to my dizzy problem. After meeting with an ear/nose/throat doc and doing some balance testing with an audiologist I was diagnosed with BPPV (benign proxisymal positional vertigo). This basically means that when I move my head into certain positions some calcium crystals move in my inner ear and throw me off balance for a few seconds. (I think that is the non-medical explanantion) Anyway, it shouldn't get any worse, shouldn't really cause any pain or damage and will most likely go away even faster with some therapy. Weird, right?
